Nine Days
in Tibet
This year,
Mumbai’s Kalaghoda festival from February 3 till 11 will transform
Mumbai’s art district into mini Tibet. The area will be festooned
with vibrant Tibetan Prayer flags. The sound of music of Tibet
amidst the radiating glorious lanterns amongst numerous Tibetan
events will bring a feeling of a carnival to the city.
The
Dalai Lama believes that Mumbai, the commercial capital of India,
is a truly global and multi cultural city. He feels that there
is a need to build a cultural bridge. This bridge comprising of
Tibetan culture and Buddhist Philosophy should be shared between
the citizens of Mumbai and the Tibetan community. Against this
background, this part of the Kalaghoda festival titled Nine Days
in Tibet is being organized by the The Tibet India Foundation
and supported by the Indian Aesthetics Alumni. The Dhuk- which
is a religious umbrella used by the Tibetan high lamas will be
the Mascot of the festival.
Tibetan
Musicans and Dancers will liven the area by entertaining the visitors.
For art lovers there will be Tibetan Thangka paintings exhibition
brought from the Tibetan Monasteries. A Mandala will be exquisitely
and painstakingly created and then destroyed as per the Tibetan
tradition. There will also be Thangkas, Incense sticks, prayer
beads, music CD, prayer wheels and bells, books available at the
handicrafts stall. And for a genuine taste of Tibet, delicious
Momos specially prepared by the Tibetan women.
The
people of Mumbai will have the opportunity to get a spiritual
audience with the Venerable Shingza Pandita Rimpoche, the highest
reincarnate in the Sera Jhe Monastery. This Monastery is the largest
Tibetan Monastery in the world. Also planned are introductory
sessions of Gom – the traditional form of meditation.
There
are many surprises which are to be personally seen and experienced.
